This Saturday, April 22, is Earth Day! We've compiled a list of some Earth Day events taking place throughout Chester County — from tree plantings to community cleanup activities. Check out the list to see what's taking place near you. (Please note that this list includes a sampling of events and is not a comprehensive list of all events taking place. For details regarding an event, be sure to visit the desired municipality/organization's website prior to attending).

Oxford Borough Spring Cleanup Event

April 19—April 22, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (drop-off event each day)
This event is open to Oxford Borough residents only (proof of residency required). Specified items can be dropped off at 450 W. Locust Street, Oxford PA. Public works staff will be on hand to direct participants and assist with unloading. See the website for a list of accepted items. Website

Avondale Community Cleanup

April 22, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Meet at Avondale Borough Hall for the cleanup. Gloves, garbage bags, safety vests and glasses will be provided. Website

Brandywine Red Clay Alliance's Annual Brandywine Clean Up Event

April 22, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Register now to participate to help keep roads, parks, and streams in our area clean and beautiful! Clean-up/staging locations include Modena, Downingtown (Kerr Park), Beaver Valley, DE (Smith Bridge Picnic Area, First State National Park) and Pocopson Township (Myrick Conservation Center, BRC). Caln Township Riparian Buffer & Tree Maintenance Day

April 22, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (Lloyd Park); 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. (Municipal Park)
Join Caln Township Parks and Rec to help take care of the 800+ trees that have planted over the last couple years. Bring work gloves and a willingness to get a little muddy! (This volunteer opportunity is probably best for adults and older kids and will be held rain or shine). Website

Earth Day and Spring 2023 Celebration in Coatesville

April 22, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Join Coatesville Parks & Recreation at Paul Palmer Park (115 N 9th Ave in Coatesville) for a free plant care kit plus information on weeding and pruning, recycling and reusing, and conservation. All are welcome. Website

East Pikeland Township Earth Day Road Cleanup

April 22, 9:00 a.m.
Meet at the old East Pikeland Elementary School (1191 Hares Hill Rd.) in East Pikeland! Please bring gloves and wear close-toed shoes and long pants. Grabbers and bags will be provided. Website

French & Pickering — Native Plants & Wildflowers Walk

April 22, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Come celebrate Earth Day by joining Jim Moffett, French & Pickering's Preserve Manager, for a 3-mile, 3-hour walk to sharpen your identification skills of the native plants and wildflowers that thrive in the woodland setting of our Templin Woods Preserve. Website

French Creek Earth Day

April 22, 9:00 a.m.
Join volunteers and park staff and help complete a variety of tasks throughout the park. The majority of the work is on trails and spreading gravel. This is very important for the continual health of French Creek's trails. All materials are provided, and registration is required. Website

Keep East Goshen Beautiful Day

April 22, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Meet at the township building and get a location to pick up litter around the township! Call 610-692-7171 to register to volunteer.

Litter Lifters of West Vincent — Earth Day Cleanup

April 22, 7:30 a.m.
Meet at the WAWA at the intersection of Route 113 and Route 23 in Phoenixville. Check out their Instagram page to follow along! Website

Parkesburg Spring Cleanup Day

April 22, 9:00 a.m.
Help clean up trash, plant flowers, and work on small projects to spruce up Parkesburg at Minch Park. All are welcome! You can also donate soil, flowers, or money towards supplies. Website

Phoenixville Earth Day 2023 Cleanup

April 22, 9:00 a.m.
Meet at the Phoenixville Wawa (120 Schyukill Rd, Phoenixville). The group will be providing the following supplies courtesy of PennDot and Better Days Ahead (BDA): gloves, trash bags, trash pickers, hand sanitizer, water and drinks, snacks. Website

Phoenixville Green Team — Touch Grass, Touch Sky

April 22, 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The Phoenixville Area Transition and Phoenixville Green Team invite volunteers to head to Reservoir Park for a celebration in honor of Earth Day! Website

Schuylkill Township Earth Day Cleanup

April 22, 8:00 a.m.
Join members of the Schuylkill Township EAC and community volunteers to help clean up a section of Pothouse Road. Supplies will be provided. Website

Tree Planting at Wolf's Hollow County Park

April 22, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Join Chester County Park Ranger Emmett Henry and Assistant Parks + Trails Manager Andrew McMullen and the Go Green Chesco team in planting trees to reforest an open field area starting along the edges at Wolf's Hollow County Park! Website

Upper Uwchlan Earth Day Celebration

April 22, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Join the Upper Uwchlan Twp. Environmental Advisory Council for sustainability demonstrations, food vendors, earth-friendly products and more at Upland Farm Park in Chester Springs. Website

West Chester Borough Community Cleanup

April 22, 8:30 a.m.
The West Chester Community Cleanup is a fun, safe way to get out and make a positive impact in our community! Please join Mayor Lillian DeBaptiste and Chief James Morehead of the WCPD. Website

West Vincent Township Earth Day Nature Activity — Woodland Care

April 22, 12:00 p.m.
Give mother nature a helping hand along West Vincent's Weatherstone Trail! Learn to identify plants and save baby trees. Meet on Pinehurst Drive off Route 401. Website

West Whiteland Township's Earth Day Volunteer Event

April 22, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Head over to Miller Park for West Whiteland's Earth Day Event! Volunteer projects will include a stream cleanup and planting native species along the stream. Visit tables hosted by local environmental organizations to learn how you can make a difference. Website

Honey Brook Township Cleanup Day

April 29, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
The Recreation and Park Board will provide work gloves, safety vests, and trash bags, along with road safety signs for any groups working near busy roads. Meet at 8:30 am in the Township Administration Building parking lot, 500 Suplee Road. Rain date: Saturday, May 13. Website

Valley Township Community Cleanup

May 13, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Please join Valley Twp. to help cleanup their neighborhoods, parks, roadways, riverbanks and open spaces. Gloves, safety vests, and trash bags will be provided to all registered participants. Website

Pollinator Garden Planting at Black Rock Sanctuary

People Who Use Trash Cans — Route 1 Cleanup (Kennett Square to Oxford)

Weekends through May 28
The Great American Cleanup of PA hosts a weekly cleanup from March – May along Route 1 from Kennett Square to Oxford in Chester County. Weekend times are flexible, and all supplies are provided. Please message their Facebook page or text 302-222-3319 for details about signing up. Website
